We are looking for a Mechanical Battery Engineer with a background in thermal engineering, modelling and simulation and some hands on build/assembly work.

£40,000 to £50,000

Role and responsibilities:

Leading at least one major customer project.

Designing, assembling and testing prototype batteries.

Thermal and structural simulation of batteries and cells.

Requirements analysis and engineering specification development.

Liaising with external design contractors and battery integration partners.

Shape company’s future by actively driving and contributing to the Battery Development Strategy and taking ownership of one or more strategic development areas.

Ongoing development of processes, specifications and documentation.

Contribution to the development of new project initiatives and proposals.

Implementing safe systems of work.

The following skills are essential:

Educated to degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent.

Experience of Li-Ion pack design/development in a professional or academic setting.

Experience of CAD software (e.g. Solidworks).

Experience of FEA software for thermal and structural analysis

Experience in welding/joining processes such as soldering, ultrasonic soldering, ultrasonic welding, resistance welding and more.

Good appreciation of health and safety in an engineering environment.

Highly disciplined, analytical, well organised, able to work independently and as part of a team.

Experience in project management.

Experience of any of the following would be an advantage:

Understanding of the differences between Li-Ion and Lithium-Sulfur.

Understanding of other engineering disciplines e.g. electrical, software, chemistry.

Knowledge of battery pack testing standards such as ECE Reg 100, UN 38.3 or DO347.

Knowledge of design for manufacture.

Experience of battery pack or cell testing.

 

This is a new position in the expanding Battery Systems team. Reporting to the Battery Systems Manager.

Involved in the development of a wide range of battery systems for applications including automotive, aviation and aerospace, marine and defence.

We work with number of development and integration partners to deliver the complete battery system and grow our in-house development capability for development of proof of concept batteries.
